Beginning Oct 9th, 2018, I'm running a series of science sessions for Home Educated kids around 10 - 15 years old. The classes are scheduled for 11 consecutive Tuesdays in the Conference Room at Dome cafe, 21 Cale St, Midland. Each day I'll run the same 80 minute session twice, back-to-back from noon, with a 20 min break between. We should be done by 3 PM.
The cost structure is currently $15/head/session with all consumables proved by me. I ask that students bring along an A4 sized box with lid (see pic of one I bought for a few $$ at Officeworks) to be used to store notes, worksheets, crafty and activity items etc.
My philosophy is based on students embarking on an 11 week expedition into science and I'll expose them to expeditionary behaviour (team work), and attention to six phases of the science approach:
S top, focus and consider your place
T alk about the ideas presented
I nvestigate by creating and doing an activity
L ook and observe the experiment
T hink about the meaning of what happened
S hare your thoughts with others
The first lesson will be greeting and housekeeping followed by concepts such as energy and motion (Newtonian & Einsteinian physics) and will be accompanied by a rocket making & launching activity.
The course will be inclusive of students' individual learning modes and will be supportive, colourful and tactile.
I will use my extensive qualifications (MSc, GDipEdSc, GCertSc, BAppSc Cert IV TAE) and certifications (first aid, WWCC, NCC) to provide a diverse and fascinating experience.
